Weekend Antics - 21st's + Date with the Girlfriends :)

So this weekend, since it is the start of the 2nd semester of uni. My girlfriends and I decided to head out and have dinner and desert.

FRIDAY

We got chocolate brownie with banana slices and ice cream and a dark italian chocolate mousse. So yummy!

After desert we met up with more friends and decided to watch 'The Conjuring'. Definitely got my adrenaline rush experience from that movie. Had a couple of nightmares as well ...

After the movie, my friend decided that she wanted the minion cut out from the cinema. And so.. she took it. Was a very funny sight, a girl just running out of the cinema with a minion. But it was her flat mates 21st and the theme was Despicable Me so it was a necessary addition to the festivities!

SATURDAY

This is the dress that I decided to wear for the 21st on the Saturday. I have been looking for a maxi dress/maxi skirt with a slit. AND I FOUND ONE! I thought it was $59.99 but went I took it up to the counter, it was actually on sale for $20. I love a good sale. Ignore the mess guys!

Shameless selfie number 1. I just went for a simple makeup and minimal jewellary. Added a plum lipstick shade from maybelline just for a pop of colour.

I really couldn't be bothered wearing heels only because it was a cold, cold night. So I decided for my comfy Roc Boots instead. I think they added a bit of masculinity to a very feminine outfit.

SUNDAY

Spent Sunday lazing around in the library in our jammies!

What did you guys get up to in the weekend? :) Please do leave a comment or two down below.

SNOW DAY!

Woke up this morning and dragged myself out of bed to attempt to make my 9am lecture. Glanced out the window to see what mother earth has deemed the weather was going to be and ....

BAM!

SNOW!

Now, I do like my snow days, especially since they usually mean that lectures are cancelled. But, with cold weather comes the struggle to get out of my warm room, drag myself to the library and get some study done. With about 18 days left till exams, some study needs to be done ASAP.

Today as well, I had a job interview. After rushing to have shower, slap some makeup on and get dressed, I got a call saying that the interview was also cancelled due to snow-y conditions. So, I have nothing. NOTHING to distract me from studying :'(

In an attempt to procrastinate, I decided to write a post just rambling about the horrible weather and the dreariness of student life. Can't wait till the summer hols! >:(

+1 Piercing

For as long as I can remember, I've had my ear lobes pierced. According to my parents it was done when I was a couple of months old and till the age of 19 that was the only piercing I had.

What changed?...

Well, I started university.

Something about university invoked in me feelings of rebellion and independence of the like that I had never experienced before.

So, I developed a trend of coming back home after each semester with a new "surprise" for my parents

1) At the end of my first year in 2011

I got my nose pierced.
The fact that I put a ring in it only served to enhance the surprise :)

2) After the first semester in my 2nd year (2012)

I decided that it was time to finally get the tattoo that I had been planning for 2 years.
That's only the outline of it. I'll post a complete version and the meaning behind it later.

3) Just before I head home in about 10 days

I haven't actually done this one yet, but I'm doing it in about ... 3 hours.

I'm going to get my helix pierced. After my nose piercing and tattoo, one would assume that I wouldn't be nervous.

But I am. Very much so..

You Tube doesn't help either.

I'll post a photo when the deed is done.

For those of you considering either a nose piercing or a tattoo and you're worried as to how much it'll hurt, I'll say this. If I can get them you definitely can!

For my nose piercing, it was done using a gun and it was, I kid you not, just a sharp pinch. Cleaning it and taking care of it did cause a teeny, tiny bit of pain but it was nothing unbearable at all. I was quite pedantic about my piercing and I cleaned it about twice a day using tea tree oil. You can also make up your own salt water mixture to clean and it'll work as fine. I was asked to continually keep turning the piercing while it was still healing to prevent the skin from healing over it but these are instructions that you'll get from the piercing parlour. So, a nose piercing = a piece of cake.

As for my tattoo, it was more painful then the nose piercing without a doubt. In the photo, you just see the outline of the tattoo, and that part didn't hurt at all. It literally felt like something was scratching on my skin but it was more of an annoying feeling as opposed to a painful one. I also got it shaded in and that's the part that really, really hurts. But, it was still bearable and your tattooist will take things as slow as you need it to be.

Don't forget that a tattoo is permanent so before you get it done, make sure you research the best place to go too. I know most of you are worried about how much it'll cost, but remember, if you want a nice job, you sometimes just have to pay a bit more for it. Also, don't be shy to ask your tattooist to draw out your design. Remember that it is permanent and you want to be 100% happy with the product that is going on your skin. I personally advice you to go in to a couple of places and then settle on one that gives you the most confidence.

If you're thinking of getting a bigger piece then what I did done, you could also ask to see the tattooist's portfolio just to get an idea of his/her strengths. If on the other hand you're thinking of a smaller piece, like a cross, you don't have to be as pedantic about picking the place but remember make sure that it's completely hygienic because you don't want to pick up some incurable disease.

That's all that I can think of. If you've got any further questions, please feel free to post a comment. Also, do leave a comment on what piercings/tattoos you guys have had done and how did you find them? :)

Gym : A place you CONSIDER visiting at least once a week.

So, anyone who knows me at all will know that the among the things I enjoy doing, the gym ain't one of them.. Running aimlessly on a treadmill just doesn't seem like a fun way to exercise. AT ALL.

Let's be honest, the treadmill does have its benefits, but it's so monotonous and repetitive. All you have to do is put one foot in front of the other and it just depends on whether you want to do it faster or slower...

So, my definition of a fun alternative ... is YOGA :) I did it for about 8 months and then it got too expensive for a poor student like me. Though I am saving to start it up again next year and for those of you who are keen to start up yoga and just couldn't be bothered or weren't too sure about it, please do give it a go. It's relaxing and so satisfying, plus you start toning your body and increasing your flexibility and strength.

There are many different forms of yoga and the one that I particularly preferred was Bikram Yoga. I absolutely loved it!
Well, that's not entirely true ... the first few sessions were ridiculously hard, and it was literally how I imagined hell would be. But after a couple of classes you start getting used to it, and I kid you not, you sweat buckets-full. So please bring a towel ... or a couple.

My first class, I went into the yoga studio with leggings and a cotton T-shirt, just the kind of look I'd be sporting at the gym. When I entered the yoga studio, the first burst of hot air was amazing! I remember thinking to myself, this won't be too bad at all. Though the fact that everyone around me was dressed in a sports bra, tiny little shorts, bikini tops and half leggings should have given me enough warning.

...

After about 10 minutes into the class, my clothes were saturated with sweat. It was NOT a pretty site. So I learnt my lesson, and the next time, I came to class in a little sports bra and just half leggings. The heat was so much more bearable without the unnecessary material sticking to me and it was also much easier to look at myself in the mirror and work on adjusting my posture.

I'm from Malaysia, and moving from there to New Zealand was a real climate shock for me and I think this is the reason I enjoy Bikram Yoga aka hot yoga. Classes are in a room that is heated to about 40 degrees Celcius with about 40% humidity and I know that it sounds like a horrible ordeal to put yourself through, but after getting through the first few classes you'll find that you start to crave the heat.

Sessions ran for exactly 90 minutes and in that time we went through 26 different postures and 2 breathing exercises.

Before yoga, I was so inflexible that I couldn't even touch my toes. True story.

After about 1 month of going to Bikram Yoga everyday, my flexibility increased and now I can touch my toes!! YAY! I know it doesn't seem like much, but it's a start of what Bikram Yoga can do if you only give it a chance and push yourself :)

So the next time that you're bored senseless of the treadmill and you're starting to get tired of the whole gym scene, give yoga a try :)

Remember...

Having dinner at the casino tonight! Yummy! :) xx

Why did I start a blog you ask?

Looking back at my life, I've realised that I've lived behind a mask, always trying to please many people but forgetting how to express myself and make myself happy. I'm pretty sure that I'm not the only person in this boat. But, I've decided that I've had enough of that.

This blog will be the start of a new me,the start of a me who is not afraid to say what she truly beliefs and who is not afraid to shape her life the way she wants to live it :)

After looking through my first post, I realise why people don't normally start their first blog after a nights of no sleep. I will just leave it there to serve as a reminder that sleep is the way to go!

Well, after that rather depressing day, which was only depressing because I procrastinated, I got about 16 hours sleep in a go...

But this got me thinking, why do people procrastinate? ...

I mean, I know the repercussions of it, but I still do it. I know plenty of other people that do it and then they end up being in the same boat as me. But I don't understand why, when you know that you've got something on, you delay it. Personally for me I think, it's just overconfidence, plus studying is boring.. and I want to put it off as much as possible.

That gets this equation running into play..

Procrastination + Facebook + Blogging + Instagram = Lack of sleep + Stress + A possible fail + EYEBAGS

The way the human mind works will never cease to surprise me eventhough that's what I study!

On a more cheerful note, check out the weather after my exam it was perfect beach weather and so ... wait for it ... I WENT TO THE BEACH! :D

How stunning is the view? I mean look at it! Although, it was warm, it was still too cold to swim so all I could do were take photos :( Next time though!

Dinner time now!

Till next time :) xx
